Accusing previous governments of promoting crony capitalism, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said the rise of big corporates like Ambani and Adani was because of them.

"Some people are not ready to accept (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji. They created ruckus in the Sadan(House)...Ambani, Adani...Modi Hai Hai. I asked them why are you raising slogans. Adani, Ambani, kiska meharbani? Tumhara meharbani. Adani, Ambani inka meharbani hai (Ambani and Adani are because of them)," Naidu told a conference on Workers' Eduction organised by the Labour Ministry.

He said, "They (Adani, Ambani) have not born during our (BJP) regime. What is their age? Is it two years? Modi came two years ago (became Prime Minister). They have been earning for so many years. They have reached this stage. Who is responsible for this. Their (previous governments') words are for the poor and deeds for the rich. We have reversed it."

The minister said, "Modi is the messiah of the poor people. That is the impression among the poor people of this country. People said earlier governments took one step forward and three steps backward. Now in the country, (we have) able leader, able government, stable government, capable leadership and moreover we have a government which takes along everybody to march forward."

Elaborating the government's vision and mission, he said, "The (BJP) government has a philosophy of unity in diversity. Modiji speaks about commoners and work for the poor people. He came from an ordinary family and has become the Prime Minister. Some people are not able to digest this."

"About 25 per cent people of this country are poor and 40 per cent are illiterate. Who is responsible for this? Those who have run the country for so long, are responsible for this," he said.

The minister said all ministers will celebrate Modi's birthday tomorrow and will do community service in various parts of the country.

There is a view that only Communists and Left leaning parties hold monopoly over labour issues. Even in films you see workers waving red flag. This assumption is patently false, he said.

CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) was founded in 1970 and claims around 3.2 million members. But Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh was established by Dattopant Thengadiji in 1955. It has membership of over 11 million.

He said, "Communists always says distribute... distribute. Produce more before distribution. Without production, there cannot be distribution."

"In West Bengal, the haven of Communism for 34 years, we saw closure of industries and flight of capital. It made labourers jobless. Only job available to them was becoming a party cadre. West Bengal was No.1 in industry when the Left Front came to power. It had slipped to No. 15 when they left," he said.
