Naxals kill jawan in Chhattisgarh

A police jawan was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's worst insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said today.

Assistant constable Nehru Punem (40), posted with Bodli outpost was shot dead last night while he was heading towards his workplace under Bandapal Police Station limits, Bijapur Superintendent of Police KL Dhruv told PTI.

A small action team of Naxals attacked Punem while he was returning to the outpost located in the dense forest patch of Bijapur, after taking dinner at his home in the village, the SP said.

Soon after getting information about the gunshots in forests, security forces rushed to the spot and found his body, the SP said.
 

The body has been sent for post mortem, the SP said adding that a combing operation has been launched in the region to trace the assailants.
