The ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir demanded a high-level probe to ascertain the veracity of reports that former Army Chief General V K Singh had tried to overthrow the Omar Abdullah government in 2010.
"Gen Singh went out of way to overthrow the Omar Abdullah government by using all resources at his command, much against the high traditions of the Indian Army," Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana said today.
"This is a very serious issue that cannot be brushed aside. We demand a thorough probe into the matter by a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court or by the CBI," he said while addressing party members at Nandian and Darhal block headquarters.
"How can a person of the stature of Chief of the Army Staff don upon himself a role carved out for the people in a democratic country," he added.
