Nine dead in road accident in Thane district of Maharashtra

At least nine people were killed in a an accident involving a private bus, a motor-bike and a car on Mumbai-Nashik highway in neighbouring Thane district today, police said.

The accident took place near Lahegaon bus stop in Shahapur tehsil at around 4 this afternoon, Thane rural police told PTI.

According to police, the bus, belonging to Neeta Travels, was coming from Nashik when it rammed a motorbike in the front, then hit the road divider, jumped across, and hit a car coming from opposite direction.

While four passengers in the car and five in the bus were killed, 23 others, including the two bike-riders, injured, police said.
 

The deceased included four women and a child.
