Press Trust of India New Delhi
Congress today said there is no credible information at present about a foreign hand behind the violence in Punjab which has been on the boil for the past one week over desecration of Guru Granth Sahib.

"There is no credible material at the moment to justify this but in the event that the government comes with more information, we are prepared to examine it," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.

Insisting that he would not like to give a knee-jerk reaction on the claim made by Punjab Police, he felt that the situation in the state was due to a combination of local and political issues.

At the same time, he said "certainly Pakistani infiltrators can well be responsible which we will have to look into but we should not simply give information in bits and pieces."

For the past one week the state has been on the boil on the issue of desecration of the holy book of the Sikhs at Bargari village in Faridkot district.
