Actor Channing Tatum has not yet confirmed the rumours suggesting he is joining the 'X-Men' film franchise.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently suggested that an agreement had been reached for Tatum to play the card-throwing mutant Gambit in 2016's 'X-Men: Apocalypse', according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Tatum, 34, has publicly lobbied to play Gambit over the past few months, but he has now spoken out to clarify that a contractual agreement with 20th Century Fox has not yet been reached.

"I hope to be joining - everything's not done yet. I've obviously been in talks, and we're on the one yard line. I'm always afraid of being like, 'Yes, it's totally happening' and then it doesn't happen... I'm dying to do it," he said.

Tatum was at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his new wrestling-themed drama 'Foxcatcher', which also stars Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo.
