Around 20,000 nurses posted at Central government hospitals across the country today staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar here to protest against the alleged "retrograded" recommendation report of the 7th Pay Commission.

The nurses, under the banner of All India Government Nurses Federation, also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Health Minister JP Nadda.

"Around 20,000 nurses from all over the country have assembled here as they feel cheated. Instead of increasing their salaries and allowances, some important allowances have been withdrawn," General Secretary of AIIMS nurses' union, Rahul Bidiyasar said.

They also threatened to intensify their protest if their demands were not fulfilled. They also said that if the government does not act fast, then they will stop all work.
