One more person has been arrested in connection with the gangrape of a woman at a burial ground, near here, even as a SI of the police station concerned was today placed under suspension for not registering a case and taking action against the culprits immediately.
Four men were arrested yesterday while the fifth person was arrested today, police said.
Salem Divison DIG Vidhya Kulkarni told PTI that Namagiripet SI Lokanathan has been placed under suspension for not registering a case immediately and not taking action against the culprits besides not getting the victim and her injured lover admitted to hospital and not informing higher officials.

local people informed Namakkal District SP S R Senthilkumar about the incident.
Meanwhile, shops in Namagiripet area downed shutters protesting against the incident and local people demanded that action be taken against police personnel for not taking action immediately to get the victim and her injured lover admitted to hospital.
A dharna was also staged.
The 32-year-old woman and her lover were labourers at a
sago factory and were returning home on Monday night when they were accosted by the gang.
