Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said over three crore LED bulbs have been distributed in the state under the Centre's ambitious UJALA scheme.

"By distributing over three crore LED bulbs, Gujarat has become the first state to achieve such a feat. People of Gujarat have set an example for the country by adopting the highest number of LED bulbs," Rupani said at Anand yesterday.

Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) programme envisages replacing traditional incandescent bulbs, tube lights and CFL bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs in households.

He said Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has also launched LED tube lights and energy-saving fans in the state.

"Consumers have already realised how drastically their electricity bills have come down. I am confident that with the launch of these two appliances, the result will be enormous. Besides, it is helping the government to manage peak demand and reduce power outage," the CM said.

EESL Regional Manager Polas Dash said they are planning to distribute over 20 lakh energy efficient LED tube lights and 3 lakh energy efficient fans to people on upfront payment. "It is estimated that over 1.26 crore consumers will benefit from the scheme," he said.

Dash said the consumers can purchase energy efficient LED bulbs at Rs 65 each.

"EESL provides free of cost replacement for all technical faults for three years for LED bulbs and tube lights and 2.5 years for energy efficient fans," he said.
