A petition seeking to register a case against the Director General of Police (Prisons), Tiruchirappalli, for threatening a real estate owner for asking to return the money lent to him, was filed before the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court here.
Justice C T Selvam directed the police to investigate the case.
If a prima facie case had been made out, then they should register a case and take action as per law. If there is no fact in the case, then they inform the complainant about it, he said.

The petitioner G S Martin charged that DIG Duraichamy had threatened to shoot and kill him when he asked for Rs five lakh he had lent him.
He contended that he had lent the money in 2010 as a family friend for buying three acres of land at Kulasekaran Patti near Vadipatti.
The DIG had given a property document as mortgage and also registered the mortgage of the property which was in his mother's name.
Though he had asked for returning the money several times, the DIG said he would pay his money with interest and then take back the mortgage document.
He contended that the official had telephoned him on February 22 this year and and asked him to bring the document to Mattuthavani bus stand.
He also handed over the document to him.
He told him to come to Tiruchirappalli and take back the money.
When he asked for the money after reaching Tiruchirapapalli, the DIG threatened to kill him, the petitioner submitted.
He said he had given a complaint to police for cheating and threatening him but no action was taken, he submitted.
