As the country gears for the Swachh Bharat Mission, a commercial organisation has shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing MCD of scrapping a high-end toilet project even after getting nine prototypes built in different locations in the city.

It has also urged the prime minister to intervene in the matter and instruct MCD to operate and maintain these toilets.

According to Shilpi Arora, chairperson and MD of Garuda Advertising, the company which had built one such prototype at Kailash Colony, MCD had floated tenders for these high-end toilets in 2010 and had asked bidders for live models for evaluation.

The organisation and eight other entities built such high-end toilets in different parts of the city for evaluation. However, MCD scrapped the tender on June 30, 2010, she claimed.

"We humbly request you to instruct MCD officials to allow us to operate and maintain these infrastructures as per tender terms on October 2 to mark your Swachh Bharat Campaign," she said in her letter to Modi.

MCD officials were not available for comments.
