A police officer was today caught red-handed while he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from an acquaintance of a rape victim near here, Lokayukta police said.
Assistant sub-inspector Natwarsingh Nayak, posted at Badhgonda police station, had demanded bribe from the complainant for collecting necessary evidences and "strengthening" the case of a rape victim before producing it before the court.
The complainant, a family acquaintance of the victim, was pursuing the case against alleged rapist Prakash (20), a Lokayukta police inspector said.

He said after receiving the complaint, a Lokayukta police team laid a trap and Nayak was nabbed as he was taking Rs 3,000 as bribe from the complainant at Badhgonda police station premises, nearly 40 kms from district headquarters.
The police officer has been booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigations were on.
