Policeman awarded jail term in bribery case

A head constable was today sentenced by a CBI court to one-and-a-half years rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.

CBI had filed a case against Head Constable Narayansamy of Karaikal Town Traffic Police Station, saying that he had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for releasing the complainant on bail in a case registered against him and returning a motor cycle, a CBI release said.

Narayanasamy was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant and the money as well as the key of the motor cycle were recovered from him, it said.

After investigation of the case, a charge sheet was filed against him under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
 

Principal District and Sessions Judge N Vaithyanathan convicted Narayanasamy and sentenced him to one-and-a-half years RI and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
