Punjab govt to computerise 15 libraries

To improve infrastructural facilities, provide adequate reading material and modernise networking, Punjab government would computerise 15 district public libraries with a cost of Rs 75 lakh in a phased manner.
An outlay of Rs 75 lakh has been provided to computerise 15 district public libraries as part of the 12th five year plan in the state, Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka said here today.
Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Mansa, Nabha, Ropar, Sangrur and Giani Gurmukh Singh Memorial Central State library at Patiala would be covered under the project.
The minister said all file records of the libraries would also be computerised to ensure easy assess and bring more transparency in their functioning.
