Rains continue, major rivers flowing above danger mark in UP

With southwest monsoon remaining normal and heavy rains lashing various parts of Uttar Pradesh, major rivers of the state such as the Sharda and the Ghagra are flowing above the 'red' mark at Palia Kalan and Elgin Bridge respectively.

Ganga is flowing at danger mark in Fatehgarh, Kannauj and Kanpur.

According to the MeT department, chief amount of rainfall recorded in centimetre are- Chandradeep Ghat and Mahrajganj - 9 cm each, Agra-7, Zamania, Chillaghat, Saharanpur- 5 each; Ghazipur, Pratapgarh and Amethi-4 each.

The MeT has forecast rain/thunder shower at many places over the state.

According to the Central Water commission report, due to the rains, major rivers are on the rise with Sharda flowing above danger mark at Pallia Kalan (Kheri), while Ghagra was above the red mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki), Ayodhya and Turtipar (Ballia), Rapti is flowing above danger mark at Bhinga (Shravasti) and Balrampur.
 

Rohini river is also flowing above the red mark at Mahrajganj, it said.
