The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence today seized one tonne of raw material used for the production of narcotic drug ephedrine in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh.
DRI assistant director Saikrishna Hattangadi said the officials seized one tonne of 'propiophenone', used for manufacturing ephedrine, from a godown in Nimrani village in the district.
On April 26, DRI had busted a ephedrine manufacturing unit at factory at Pithampur industrial estate in the state and seized 237 kg of the drug and arrested three persons.

According to Hattangadi, the accused had rented the closed factory premises and started manufacturing the narcotics there. Their questioning led to today's seizure.
Ephedrine is further processed into methamphetamine, a party drug, also known as 'speed'.
