From Wednesday people in Jharkhand will be able to lodge complaints against unauthorised absence of school teachers and on the quality of Mid-Day Meals over phone.
"To check absenteeism (of teachers) two toll-free numbers - 1800-3456-542 and 1800-3456-544 - will be introduced on Wednesday," Secretary of State School Education and Literacy, Aradhana Patnaik, said here today.
After receipt of a complaint, a team would be sent immediately to the district concerned and if the complaint was found genuine, action would be taken against the erring teacher the same day, she said.

The complainants' names and phone numbers would be taken and would be kept secret, she said.
However, a cross-check mechanism would be there to detect false complaint against any good teacher and such complainants would be taken to task.
People could also lodge complaints if they find poor quality of Mid-Day Meals, Patnaik added.

"You get salaries in cheque but cannot withdraw cash," she told the convention adding that there is difference between e-governance and forcing people to use cash.
The state's revenues have decreased by 25 per cent as a result of demonetisation, she added.
