A bunch of robbers killed a retired BSF Commandant and injured his wife after they broke into the couple's house at Dasuya town in Hoshiarpur district, police said today.

The robbers took away his licenced gun and valuables after killing the 75-year-old Narinder Singh.

"About 3-4 people entered the house, located at a remote stretch. They first injured Singh by hitting him with a rod. They also injured his wife," Hoshiarpur SSP, Kuldeep Singh said.

"They hit him with rod, ransacked the house, escaping with valuables. Later on, his injured wife managed to walk out to some distance and informed some persons living near their house. The police were subsequently informed," he said.

The SSP said that the couple's son lives abroad while their daughters also live elsewhere.

"We have registered a case and are hopeful to crack the case soon," the police officer added.
