A patwari (revenue official) was today arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500 in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh.

Shobharam Dhruv (45), posted at village Gujra of the district, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe he had demanded from Mohanlal Sahu for the division of his land, an ACB official told PTI.

The complainant, a native of Sangli village in the neighbouring Balod district, has a piece of land measuring 0.28 hectare in Gujra.

"To sell his land in different parts, he had applied for its division to Patwari for which the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,500," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim lodged a complaint with the ACB in this connection following which it was verified.

As Dhruv had agreed to accept the bribe at his office in Gujra, a trap was laid there and he was apprehended while receiving the money, the official said.

A case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered against him, he added.
