A team of Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested a senior officer of revenue department in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on charge of accepting Rs 20,000 as bribe.

A senior government official said the concerned official Dr Arun Kumar Jha, who held the position of Sub-divisional Magistrate/Sub-Registrar, South Andaman, was arrested yesterday on charge of illegal gratification to the tune of Rs 20,000 for converting commercial land.

The arrest followed an FIR filed on November 27 that an official of Revenue Department, Port Blair, was demanding bribe for conversion of commercial land, at the police station of Anti-Corruption Unit.

Jha, the SDM/Sub-Registrar of Revenue department, was caught red-handed with the tainted money of Rs 20,000 at his chamber as a trap was laid by the ACU who accompanied the person asked to pay the bribe.

Jha was later produced in court.
