Rival groups open fire during panchayat polls

Supporters of two candidates today opened fire during polling for panchayat elections in the district.

However, no one was injured in the incident, police said.

"A verbal spat broke out between polling agents of two contesting candidates in Sundarwali village in Nagar area after which members from both the sides gathered and also opened fire but no one was injured," Additional SP Himmat Singh said.

He said that a police team brought the situation under control in time and dispersed the mob.

Polling process was disrupted for a brief period but was later resumed.
