Five unidentified persons today allegedly robbed two employees of a courier firm and fled with Rs 75 lakh cash after firing at one of them.

The incident took place when Kanti Chaudhari and Suresh Chauhan, who were carrying Rs 75 lakh in cash, were intercepted by five robbers on a road near Sopan-Sharanam apartment in Chandlodia area of city.

In his complaint to Sola police, Chaudhari said he and Chauhan worked for Ganesh Prakash Angadia courier firm, which has branches in Ratanpol and Navrangpura.

As a daily routine, they went to their owner house in Gota area of city to collect cash which meant to be delivered at Navrangpura branch.

Chaudhari claimed that after collecting Rs 75 lakh in two bags, they headed towards Navrangpura. Chauhan, who was driving the scooter, kept one bag at his feet, while Chaudhari kept the other bag with him.

Chaudhari claimed that as they were passing Sopan-Sharnam apartment at 10 am, five people came on two bikes and forced Chauhan to stop the vehicle. Some robbers snatched a bag of cash from him, while others tried to snatch the bag kept near Chauhan's feet.

"However, when Chauhan refused to give the bag, one of the robbers pulled out a pistol and allegedly fired a bullet at Chauhan. Then, all five persons quickly sat on their bikes and fled. Chauhan is now being treated at a private hospital," Sola Police Inspector B V Gohil, who is investigating the case, said.
