Red sanders logs worth Rs.4.5 crore, meant to be smuggled to Dubai, were seized from a container lorry in the city, customs sources said today.
On a tip off, officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) stopped the container past midnight yesterday and on search found the red sanders, hidden inside poly propylene woven fabrics, which were meant for export, DRI sources said today.
Inquiry revealed that the sanders were meant to be exported to Dubai under the guise of exporters from Erode, they said.
Investigations were on to find out the source of supply and the persons behind the smuggling.
