Former Lok Sabha member Puranmasi Ram today lodged a complaint with the police in West Champaran district about getting extortion demand of Rs 5 crore from an anonymous caller.

Talking to PTI over phone, Ram said, "somebody was calling me incessantly from an unknown number. I thought it could be something urgent and took the call. He showered abuses and asked me to pay Rs 5 crore if I want to remain alive."

Ram said the caller also threatened that my children would be killed and my house would be blown up if I did not pay the money demanded.

"I informed the district SP and gave a written complaint to Patkhauli police outpost where my house is located. The police have started investigating," he added.

Ram has also been five times MLA in a row and served as a state minister before becoming an MP from Gopalganj constituency.
