Press Trust of India Mumbai
The rupee breached the 68-mark today as it fell by 18 paise against the greenback as demand for dollar from banks and importers gathered pace amid bearish local equities.

The Indian unit resumed lower by 10 paise at 67.95 per dollar as against Wednesday's closing level of 67.85 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market.

The domestic unit hovered in a range of 68.03 and 67.91 per dollar during morning deals before breaching the 68 level.

The dollar index was down by 0.10 per cent at 95.73 against a basket of six currencies in the Asian trade.

Overseas, dollar hit a 15-month low against the yen today after comments from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen gave investors no reason to change their minds that the next rate hike will be a long time coming.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex was trading lower by 173.58 points or 0.73 per cent at 23,585.32.
