Sec US Navy visits Kochi, holds talks with Southern command

Secretary of the US Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus, who is on a four-day visit to the city, today discussed issues of common interest with the officials of the Southern Naval Command.

Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, Flag Officer Commanding-in- Chief, held discussions on issues of common interest with the visiting Secretary, who was accompanied by a nine-member US delegation, at the Southern Naval Command.

"On completion, crest and gifts were exchanged with the visiting dignitary. During his visit, the Secretary witnessed the Indian Naval training facilities of Southern Naval Command at Kochi," a Navy release said.

In the afternoon session, the SECNAV accompanied by the US delegation visited Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, where he was shown the indigenous aircraft carrier under construction.
 

The secretary of the US Navy and the US delegates, during their stay in Kochi, would also be visiting heritage sites and places of interest such as Jewish Synagogue, Santa Cruz Basilica, Jew Street, the release added.

The US navy delegation began their Kochi visit yesterday.
