A court here today sentenced a 29-yer-old man for instigating a woman to death by cheating and raping her at Kodaikanal in 2011.
The Women's Court Judge Rajalakshmi said charges under IPC section 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) and 306 (abetment to commit suicide) against Rajesh had been proved by the prosecution beyond doubt.
The judge sentenced Rajesh to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment for cheating the woman and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000.

The judge also sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment each for raping the woman and then instigating her to commit suicide. Besides Rs 25,000 fine was also slapped on each counts.
The sentences would run concurrently, the judge said. The other accused, including his brother and parents in the case had been acquitted.
Accoring the prosecution, Rajesh had taken the woman to Kodaikanal where he tied the "Mangalya Sutra" at a local temple and then "raped" her. Later he denied marrying her and refused to live with the woman and left her in a house.
The woman informed about the incident to her brother Kaliraju, who is a sub inspector. Later the woman's paretns had gone to the house of Rajesh and requested to intervene and help the woman to marry Rajesh. However they and turned them away.
The woman commited suicide in her brother's house on September 12, 2011.
