An Anglo-Indian MP has asked the government to set up a panel on the lines of Justice Sachar Committee to study the "pathetic condition" of certain Christian groups in the country.

In a letter to Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan, Anglo-Indian representative in the Lok Sabha Charles Dias said about 80 per cent of Christians who are socially, educationally and financially backward are struggling for their survival.

Noting that the Christians who belong to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are living in a "most pathetic situation", the MP said, "Just because they have embraced Christian religion, they are pushed out of the SC group and denied the facilities being provided to SC."

"This is nothing but injustice perpetuated to a large number of people who are discriminated in the name of religion," he said and asked the minister to "take suitable steps to appoint a Commission in the nature of Justice Sachar Committee, to study the social, economical and educational situation of the Christians in India".
