Seven persons, including a teenager, were arrested in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old man at Talasingh village in Odisha's Gajapati district on the suspicion of practising black magic, police said today.
"Some more persons are also involved in the gruesome murder. Efforts are on to nab them," said Inspector In-Charge of Mohana police station Prasant Bhupati.
The arrest of the seven persons was made yestarday after deceased Tibatia Mallick's wife Sabitri had lodged a complaint with police on Wednesday.
Police said the accused had dragged Mallick from his house on Monday night and beaten him to death. After killing him, they set his body on fire in the nearby Parabadi hill top the same night.
The bones and ashes were seized from the hilltop on Wednesday and sent to the forensic labrotary for tests, police added.
