One person was arrested from Kala Jamuna village in Ganjam district for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 24-year-old woman in Bengaluru, police said today.

Manoranjan Swain (27) was arrested by a police team from Bengaluru for allegedly murdering Gayatri Swain (24), who also hailed from Kala Jamuna, in Bengaluru on September 3.

Police in Bengaluru found Gayatri's body on September 4 and informed Ganjam police after identifying her. After allegedly committing the murder, Manoranjan returned to his village, police said.

A police team along with Magata Swsain, father of the deceased, had gone to Bengaluru, where he identified the body of his daughter, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chhatrapur) P P Chaudhary.

Magata had lodged a police complaint in Bangalore.

During investigation, Bangalore police identified Manoranjan through a locket which they found near the woman's body. With the help of Rambha police, they arrested him on Friday, Chaudhary said.

Manoranjan, who is working as a supervisor at a Bengaluru factory, had been living in a house with the girl after allegedly kidnapping her in May, police said.

It is suspected that Manoranjan throttled her to death following a quarrel.
