As many as seven Congress workers were arrested here today when they were protesting against Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) Commissioner Vijay Nehra's decision to disallow digging up the city's roads to install Lord Ganesha's idol during Ganesh Mahotsav.

A couple of days ago, the RMC Commissioner had issued guidelines not allowing organisers to dig up roads while to install Lord Ganesha's idols.

However, Congress workers led by one Keyur Masrani, rushed the RMC's office today and protested against the commissioner's decision.

They also installed Lord Ganesha's idol right outside the RMC Commissioner's office to oppose his decision.

"We asked them to stop their activities outside the commissioner's office and when they refused to do so, we arrested seven Congress workers," police sub-inspector of 'A' division L L Chavda said.

Later, a few Congress workers burnt tyres near Trikaun Baugh Chowk area, though no arrests were made since they managed to flee from the spot, the police official said.
