Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today successfully completed one year in office in this land-locked state.

"I am the first servant of the people, though the people might call me the first citizen of Arunachal Pradesh," he said while talking to PTI here.

Carrying forward the legacy of his predecessor General (Retd) J J Singh, Sharma strengthened the 'Team Arunachal' spirit to see this frontier state grow into one of the most developed and economically vibrant ones through willing individual and collective contribution to state-building.

His persistent endeavour was to see that projects are executed within timeframes, while focusing on healthcare, education and youth development in the social sector, and surface communication in the area of infrastructure.

He has also taken up issues relating to security and development of border areas at the highest levels including at the Governors' Conference, North East Council Plenary, with the chiefs of executing agencies, and at national and regional conferences, while seeking special consideration for allocation of fund and developmental projects during meetings with union ministers.

Within a week of joining, Sharma visited insurgency-hit Changlang and Tirap districts to instill a sense of security amongst the people of the districts by urging them to stand united against militancy.

While emphasizing of expansion of qualitative education, the governor paid special attention to harnessing the potential of youth, which constitutes more than 35 per cent of the state's population.
