In a crackdown against corruption in police force, six constables were today suspended after they were allegedly found extorting money during a surprise check by the Senior Superintendent of Police.

SSP Dharmendra Singh this morning suspended six police constables for being found involved in illegal activities, said a senior police official.

The suspension came after SSP Singh along with Sahibabad police station SHO Hardayal Yadav conducted surprise checks late last night in the Sahibabad area and found the constables extorting money from truck drivers and others, he said.

SSP Dharmendra Singh carried out the checks in plain clothes and caught the constables taking money from drivers, he said.

"Six constables have been suspended by the SSP for their involvement in illegal activities. A departmental enquiry has also been set up to probe the matter," said the official.
