Six persons, including four children, drowned and five others were missing as a boat capsized today in a swollen river Ganga in Bihar's Begusarai district.

The country boat, with 22 people on board, turned turtle in the river drowning four children and two women, while five others went missing, police sources said.

The rest, including two boatmen, swam to safety.

Six bodies have been fished out so far. Rescue operation has been halted due to darkness and increase of water level in the flooded river, the sources said.

Divers would resume search operation tomorrow morning, they added.

Four of the victims have been identified. However, identity of a woman and child is being ascertained, the sources said.

Disaster Management Minister Renu Kushwaha, who was passing through the area after the tragedy, had to face the anger of locals who protested against non-arrival of the disaster team to assist relief works.

Kushwaha assured the protesters that a NDRF team will be pressed into service.
