Smuggler arrested in Chandel

A smuggler was arrested by Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur's Chandel district, the AR said in a release.

Jamdou Haokip (47) of Chavangphai village of Moreh in Chandel district was picked up by the 24th Assam Rifles 26 sector at Khudengthabi checkpost, the release said.

The arrested smuggler, travelling in a SUV, was headed towards Imphal.

During his frisking one Tockay Gecko weighing 220 gram and worth Rs 2 crore, one driving licence, two SBI ATM cards, one PAN card and a voter ID card were recovered from his possession, the release said.

The apprehended person along with recovered items was being handed over to the state Forest department, the release added.
