SSB seizes 27.5 kg charas worth Rs 5.5 cr

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has seized 27.5 kg high quality charas worth Rs 5.5 crore in the International market and arrested two smugglers in Bihar's East Champaran district.

SSB Commandant Sonam Chering said they had a tip off that smugglers had made a godown around Chhapwa chowk under Sugauli police where they had hid charas and narcotic drugs.

SSB officials posing as customers contacted smugglers and asked them to come to the spot with the contraband,Chering said adding that officials arrested the smugglers along with high quality charas as they reached the venue last evening.

SSB team seized 27.5 kg of charas worth Rs 5.5 crore in the International market from their possession, he said adding they also seized Rs 18,390 cash and three mobile phone handsets worth Rs 9000.
 

The SSB Commandant said that the arrested smugglers, who were the part of large network of drugs, have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau, Patna for interrogation.

The SSB official, however, refused to divulge the names of the smugglers as NCB is interrogating them. The smugglers hailed from East Champaran district.
