Suspected gas leak from ice factory creates scare

More than 50 residents of Karukkalachery here today complained of eye irritation and vomiting following suspected emission of ammonia from an ice factory in the locality.

Officials said people in the close vicinity of the factory complained of vomitting also and were treated as outpatients at the government hospital here.

Fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot and assisted the people while the gas emission stopped after some time.

District Collector Muthamma and other officials were conducting inquiries at the factory.
