With the arrest of two men and recovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of the face value of Rs seven lakh from them, Special Cell of Delhi Police today claimed to have busted an international gang involved in smuggling fake currency in the country.

The high-quality FICN, printed in Pakistan was smuggled to India through Bangladesh by the gang.

"Yesterday, a tip off was received that one Nasirul, a resident of Malda, West Bengal has left for Delhi to deliver a consignment of FICN to one Rasmuddin, a resident of Mewat, Rajasthan and they are expected to meet at ISBT Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajeev Ranjan.

However, the operatives were extremely cautious and kept changing their movement and meeting plans so as to steer clear of any law enforcement agency.

In early afternoon, Nasirul Sheikh (21) and Rasmuddin were apprehended at Old Toll Plaza on NH-8 towards Delhi while they were in the midst of their transaction and total FICN worth Rs seven lakh was recovered from their possession, he said.

While FICN of the facec value of three lakh was recovered from Rasmuddin which he had just received from Nasirul Sheikh, Rs four lakh worth FICNs were recovered from the bag being carried by Nasirul Sheikh.

One person belonging to West Bengal and another from Mewat region of Rajasthan have been arrested in the operation and a total of 7 Lakh worth Pakistan printed super-fine quality Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) have been seized from their possession.

Since January 2014, the Special Cell has registered 5 cases concerning circulation of FICNs wherein 18 accused persons have been arrested and a total of 24 Lakh worth FICNs have been recovered.
