The Haryana Police today claimed to have arrested three people in connection with a cow smuggling case after an encounter in the Sodawas-Padmada area in Rewari.

Suba alias Sabudin, Shokeen alias Kala and Umar were arrested following an encounter in which Assistant Sub-Inspector Ranbir and Head Constable Ravidutt suffered bullet injuries, a police spokesman said.

Suba, a native of Palla village in Mewat, was the kingpin of the cow smuggling gang. The Delhi Police had also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on him, police said.

The spokesman said that the police had received information that a group of people were carrying cows in a canter-truck and that they were heading towards Rewari via Karauli More from Bhiwani.

Based on the information, a police team blocked the road near Dahina. The cow smugglers went towards Kanina after firing several rounds on the team, he said.

They again opened fire at a police team after breaking barricades near Majri village, injuring the officers, the spokesman said.

The police team nabbed all the three accused, he said.
