Doctors from across the country will converge here for a three-day workshop on 'Anaethesia and chronic pain' beginning tomorrow.

The workshop, titled 'Apollo International Hands-on Regional Anaesthesia and Chronic Pain Workshop', is being organised by Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad.

The workshop will provide information on the latest techniques in pain management, Professor Dr Krishna Boddu, Co-director, International Medical Education, Government of Western Australia, told reporters here today.

This workshop is designed to provide the required basic knowledge and skills for anaesthesiologists. Even a less experienced practitioner will be able to conduct nerve blocks with confidence, he said.

Some of the highlights of the workshop will be- blocking the transmission of pain at the source, thereby controlling pain effectively, methods to treat chronic pain, Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia and hands-on experience in chronic pain procedures on cadavers using portable X-ray machine and ultrasound machines, he said.

The delegates will be acquainted with nerve blocks and other chronic pain procedures, using teaching structure with application of modern technology developed by Boddu.

The pain management after injury and surgery in India is still far from being considered as adequate due to lack of technical knowhow, medications, cost and resources, a group of doctors said.
