Three persons arrested for duping customers

Three persons have been arrested for duping customers by offering them lucrative deals on branded items through an online trading portal designed by them and cheating Rs 27 lakh from one of their victims, police said today.

Accused Naseem and Naveen were arrested from Moti Nagar and based on revelations made by them their accomplice Avtar was arrested from Laxmi Nagar, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (Crime Branch).

The trio had been running an online trading portal in the name of "Shopit" to lure customers. They would call their victims from numbers taken on forged IDs and offer them items at cheap rates prompting them to deposit money in the names of delivery and clearance charges.
 

Thea accused were arrested in connection with a complaint filed by one of their victim Rohit Modi in Jagdalpur, with Chhattisgarh Police.

Rohit was cheated to the tune of Rs 27,12,116 on the pretext of getting an i-phone and other luxury items at low prices. He was contacted by the gang in November last year and ended up paying over Rs 27 lakh in next five months.
