Amid heightened activity by political parties to rein in potential allies for the coming assembly elections, the Tamil Nadu Assembly will meet on January 20 with the customary address of Governor K Rosaiah.

The first session of the year will begin at 10.30 AM on January 20 with the address of Governor Rosaiah, an official release here said.

The Business Advisory Committee of the House will later determine the duration of the session. BAC normally meets on the first day of the session. Generally, the first session of the year lasts for a maximum of a week.

Being held after torrential rains and floods of November and December 2015, the session is likely to see Opposition parties rake up the issue of handling of the deluge situation by the ruling AIADMK regime.

The tenure of the present 14th Assembly expires in May this year. The first meeting of the present Assembly was on May 23, 2011 after results for elections were declared on May 13, 2011.
