Trinamool MLA, 2 others get bail

Trinamool Congress MLA Dipak Haldar, who was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in a clash in a college here, was granted bail by a local court today.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashis Gupta granted bail to Haldar who was arrested at the instance of Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee.

The MLA has been charged with IPC sections 147 (rioting), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and others.

Farooq Gharami and Anwar Hossain Mir, who were also arrested in connection with the violence in Fakirchand College here in South 24 Parganas district, too secured bail from the ACJM's court.
 

Gharami and Mir were stated to be members of Haldar's rival faction in the party.

The arrest of Haldar came after several students were injured when two factions of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) clashed in the college campus.
