The Trinamool Congress today suspended two of its MLAs, Shilbhadra Datta and Shiuli Saha, considered close to former party general secretary Mukul Roy, for allegedly indulging in anti-party activity.

"The disciplinary committee of the Trinamool Congress yesterday took the decision to suspend the two MLAs for anti-party activity, tarnishing the image of the party and gross indiscipline", secretary-general of Trinamool Congress and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee told PTI.

He said that the suspension would take effect from today pending enquiry.

Chatterjee said, "Both the MLAs have committed serious offences and their actions could influence other partymen as well".

Both Datta and Saha had attended an iftar party here in which Mukul Roy was present.

Saha is an MLA from Haldia while Datta was elected from Barrackpore in the last Assembly elections in 2011.

Roy, a former confidante of Mamata Banerjee was removed from the key post of party's all India general secretary in February last soon after he fell out with the party supremo.
