Three passengers on board a tug boat which sank on the Yangtze River in east China's Jiangsu Province were rescued and search is on for twenty others including three foreigners, who are still missing.

Seven or eight foreigners including Singaporean, Japanese nationals and a Frenchman, are believed to be among the missing.

The boat sank while testing water in Fubei Channel on the Yangtze River at about 3 pm local time yesterday, local authorities today said.

Rescuers said the rescue work is difficult as the current is swift and the water is cold, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
