Two men have been arrested here for allegedly stealing gold jewellery of women by posing as policemen.

Akhlakh Mehandi (29) and Sagar Mishra (32) were arrested from near Saket Metro station yesterday, police said, adding that stolen gold jewellery worth Rs 3.5 lakh was seized from them.

The first complaint against the accused was made by a woman who approached the RK Puram police station on April 23.

According to her complaint, the woman was going to a market in the area when two persons in civil clothes met her at a traffic signal and introduced themselves as policemen.

"They advised her to keep her gold bangles and earrings in her bag, warning her of nefarious elements looking out for victims like her. When she was keeping the valuables in her bag, they helped her," said a senior police official.

But the accused used some trick and did not actually keep the jewellery back in the bag of the woman, who realised this later.

Another similar complaint was received from a woman on May 5.

The woman was going to Aurbindo Marg in an autorickshaw, but the vehicle broke down on the way. Before she could hire another autorickshaw, two men arrived on a motorcycle and interacted with her in the similar manner as the first case. They then fled with her bag containing jewellery.

During interrogation, the accused have confessed to their involvement in several cases. They said they have three accomplices.
