A case of accidental death has been registered in connection with a freak mishap in a high-rise here wherein a teenager and a man were killed after their car plunged into an elevator shaft and hit the building basement 35-ft down, police said.
The incident took place yesterday on the second floor of 22-storeyed Iqbal Heights in Agripada area of the city after the 14-year-old boy, Hafiz Patel, who was behind the wheels with driver Javed Ahmed, in his 30s, accelerated the vehicle and rammed it into the car lift door, forcing it open.
The vehicle then fell around 35 ft from the second floor to the basement. The security camera of the building has grabbed the entire episode, a senior police official said.

The duo was waiting for the car lift on the second floor and Hafiz, a Class IX student was learning to drive before the tragedy befell them around 1.30 PM.
The elevator, which was on the third floor at the time of the accident, got wedged due to the impact of the collision of the car onto it.
Soon after Patel's parents approached police, fire fighters were called in and bodies were recovered from the basement later in the evening and sent for postmortem.
Nagpada police has registered a case of accidental death, DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
Police will also record the statements of family members and building staff to decide if anyone can be booked for negligence, he said.

Meanwhile, police today booked Hafiz Patel (deceased) for
rash driving and causing death by negligence under sections 279 and 304 A of IPC, a senior official said.
To a query if action has been initiated against the building authorities, he said, "the inquiry into the matter is on. We will record the statements of the building staff and others and then decide if anyone can be booked for negligence".
