Two men sentenced to life imprisonment for murder

A court today sentenced two men to life imprisonment on charges of murdering a 38-year-old woman for gain here in 2013.

District Court Judge M Ravindran convicted Vijay alias Vijaya Kumar (21) and Murali (22) of Salem for theft and murder.

The court sentenced them to life imprisonment for murder, ten years prison term for theft and three years jail for committing the crime jointly, besides imposing on each a fine of Rs 10,000.

The sentences will run concurrently, it said.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 26, 2013 when the duo broke into the house of one Shanthi here to commit theft.
 

The woman was killed when she resisted and tried to raise an alarm as they attempted to snatch the gold chain from her neck.
