Two more persons were today arrested in connection with the theft of six panchaloha idols from a temple near here, four years ago.

With this, four persons have been arrested in connection with the case, police said.

Police said the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department joint commissioner in Mayiladuthurai Gajendran and former executive officer Kamaraj were arrested and remanded to judicial custody today.

They were arrested based on information provided by Ramachandran, former executive officer and Raja, head clerk of the Pasupatheeswarar temple, who were arrested a few days ago, police said.

They said a case was registered following a complaint from the HR and CE department about the theft of the idols from the temple at Panthanallur, near Kumbakonam, in 2013.

The arrested persons have been lodged in the central jail at Tiruchirappalli.
