Two women washed away after their vehicle plunges into canal

Two women were washed away in a canal at Konerupalli village under the Choppadandi police station limits nearly 30 km from here on Monday, police sources said.

According to a Choppadandi police station house officer, two women employed at the Office of the District Medical and Health Office were returning Choppadandi village from Katnepalli village in a car after distributing medicines in the villages, when the incident occurred.

He said that the driver lost control of the car which overturned and fell into the flowing canal.

The driver managed to climb out of the canal but the women employees M Anantha Laxmi (46) and Bala Saraswathi (45) were washed away.
 

Police rushed to the scene, fished out their bodies from the canal and sent them to the District Government Head Quarters Hospital at Karimnagar.

M Anantha Laxmi worked as a health supervisor, while Bala Saraswathi worked as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM).

The police has registered a case and investigation is on, the officer said.
